Who is the artist without art? What is the opposite of a media business?
Looking for embodiment—the ability to change and develop without going to the back–asks for a deep (open and critical) reflection on the relationship between what we do (/make) and who we are.
Does it energize you or pull you down? Are you a bystander to your career, following someone else's instructions, or can sensemake and navigate?
Part of the challenge–and opportunity– in our connected lives is media. We tend to limit our definition of media to professional (/visible) media businesses. I want to open our definition to include all performative communication. Rhetorical messaging, signals that reinforce perceived need, increase perceived value, or otherwise are not surprising (/homogenous in value).
Operating on a mentality of scale, we can't not be a media business. We immanent and receive direction: on what to make, how to make it, what is a success, and what to do next.
